Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

You will be responsible for building software infrastructure to operate and manage Google's production and corporate networks. This includes building software for distributed services, abstractions, and the components of the system that operates and powers the world's largest network infrastructure, from data center fabrics, to wide area networks, to the peering edge of our infrastructure. You will be writing the SDN software that controls this global network, to take Google and the networking industry far beyond what industry standard networking systems can deliver. SDN (Software Defined Networking) engineers are expected to solve the most difficult problems of scale, reliability and security in SDN networking while also delivering the high performance network Google employees require.

Responsibilities
Design and develop infrastructure software for one of the largest networks in the world, containing SDN, traditional routers, and traditional optical nodes.
Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
Design software systems that interface with humans, machines, and other software.

Minimum qualifications
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
Software development experience in one or more of the following programming languages: C/C++, Python, or Go.
Experience with network fundamentals (e.g., TCP/IP, IP Tables, NAT, routing protocols).
Experience with Software Defined Networking, Network Function Virtualization, OpenFlow, or ForCES.

Preferred qualifications
MS or PhD in Computer Science.
Experience architecting and developing software for scalable, distributed systems
Proficiency in data structures, algorithms and complexity analysis.
Familiarity with concepts of OpenFlow, ForCES, and SDN.

Area
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We're always on call to keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
