The Google Cloud Platform team helps broadcasters, content owners and media companies transform and evolve their business through the use of Google’s global data center and software products. Google Cloud video services provide platform as a service model to enterprises who need to fully automate video encoding, editing, publishing and secure syndication to multiple business partners on multiple platforms. Google Cloud video provides dynamic ad/content stitching technology services that enables our customers to maximize business by replacing television ads with user-targeted dynamic ads on all screens and creates unmatched monetization opportunities on all mobile and connected devices.

As a Google Cloud Video Encoding Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on complex, multi-disciplinary live/VOD video encoding projects using your engineering expertise in building global scalable systems in C++. Your design intuition leans toward elegance and simplicity, and you have experience with highly-scaled and robust serving systems and cloud API development.

Design, implement and launch highly-reliable and complex cloud video encoding and live streaming, dynamic packaging services from the planning stage through execution to product launch.

Minimum qualifications
MS degree in Electrical Engineer or Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience in software-based video encoding (e.g., libavcodec, custom video library development). Experience with C/C++ development.
Experience with video/audio codec internals such as H264 and HEVC, and video quality metrics. Experience on real time/live video encoding, decoding, streaming software development and video formats (e.g., fragmented mp4, MPEG transport stream).
Experience with Linux development environments and open source tools/platforms. Computer networks experience (e.g., TCP, DNS, MTU).

Preferred qualifications
PhD degree in Electrical Engineer or Computer Science or related technical field.
5 years of relevant work experience, including 2 years of industry experience.
Experience with open source video processing tools (e.g., FFmpeg, MEncoder, x264, x265, etc.).
Experience with DRM technologies (e.g., widevine, fairplay, playready).
Familiar with file container formats such as ISOBMFF and MPEG-2 Transport streams, and video streaming protocols such as DASH and HLS.
Demonstrated expertise in problem-solving and technical innovation.
